The Role
As an Automotive Technician, you will carry out inspections, servicing, diagnostics, maintenance and repairs on customer vehicles. You will be expected to work accurately, safely and professionally, ensuring every vehicle is repaired to a high standard.
Island-based automotive environments create unique working conditions for technicians. Salt air, heat, narrow roads, stop-start driving and general island conditions can place additional strain on braking, suspension, cooling, electrical and mechanical systems. The successful candidate must therefore be thorough, practical and confident identifying faults before they become major issues.

- Repair and maintain air conditioning, heating and cooling systems.
- Inspect vehicles for corrosion, wear and safety-related issues linked to island climate and road conditions.
- Follow manufacturer repair procedures, technical manuals and workshop processes.
- Complete job cards, inspection reports and repair documentation accurately.
- Liaise with service advisors and management regarding repair findings, parts requirements and completion times.
- Maintain a clean, safe and organised working area.
- Support junior technicians or apprentices where required.
- Deliver work to a standard that protects customer safety and the company's reputation.
Skills and Experience Required
- Previous experience as an Automotive Technician, Motor Vehicle Mechanic, Vehicle Technician or Diagnostic Technician.
- Strong mechanical repair and diagnostic ability.
- Experience using computer diagnostic equipment.
- Good understanding of fuel injection, electrical troubleshooting and modern vehicle systems.
- Experience with European vehicles, dealership environments or manufacturer-led procedures would be advantageous.
- Hybrid or electric vehicle experience would be beneficial.
- Relevant qualification such as City & Guilds, NVQ, ASE, Red Seal, manufacturer certification or equivalent.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a workshop team.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
- Fluent English communication skills.
- Valid driving licence required.
Candidate Profile
