General and Underwater Maintenance Technician

The Opportunity

ANT Recruitment is supporting an established and growing Caribbean-based organisation in the appointment of an experienced General and Underwater Maintenance Technician.

This is a varied, hands-on role involving maintenance work both above and below the waterline. The successful candidate will support the upkeep of vessels, docks, moorings, marine structures, underwater infrastructure and associated equipment.

The position is suited to a practical and safety-conscious individual with diving qualifications, strong general maintenance skills and the ability to work across marine, mechanical and shoreside environments.

You will work closely with the Director of Operations and wider operational team to ensure maintenance, repair and vessel-support activities are completed safely, efficiently and to the required standard.

What You'll Be Doing

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out maintenance above and below the waterline.
  • Maintaining moorings, docks, pilings, floating docks, barges, boats and foreshore structures.
  • Supporting the maintenance of fibre-optic cables, electrical cables, pipelines and other marine infrastructure.
  • Cleaning, scrubbing, scraping and maintaining vessel hulls both in and out of the water.
  • Completing fibreglass, varnishing, waxing, metalwork, electrical and mechanical maintenance tasks.
  • Maintaining vessel decks, freeboards, bilges, engine areas, bathrooms, galleys and other onboard areas.
  • Inspecting, cleaning and maintaining diving equipment.
  • Troubleshooting and repairing engines, equipment and onboard systems.
  • Identifying the parts, materials, tools and supplies required for each task.
  • Supporting vessel dry-docking, shoreside maintenance and equipment repairs.
  • Assisting with the movement and repositioning of vessels, barges and boats.
  • Piloting or driving vessels and workboats to project locations when authorised and required.
  • Reading and interpreting manuals, engineering sketches, diagrams, charts and work orders.
  • Completing tasks in accordance with company procedures, standard operating procedures and relevant regulations.
  • Ensuring work is carried out in line with environmental and pollution-control requirements.
  • Maintaining accurate records of work completed, materials used and faults identified.
  • Supporting other operational and maintenance duties when required.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for a dependable and versatile marine maintenance professional who is comfortable working both independently and as part of a wider operational team.

You should have:

  • A minimum PADI Open Water Diver qualification, ACD/ACDE diving certification or an equivalent recognised qualification.
  • Current First Aid, CPR and oxygen-administration certifications.
  • Previous experience in underwater maintenance, marine maintenance, vessel maintenance or a related technical environment.
  • Practical experience working on vessels, docks, moorings, marine structures or underwater infrastructure.
  • General mechanical, electrical, fibreglass or metal-maintenance experience.
  • The ability to troubleshoot equipment and identify repair requirements.
  • The ability to read manuals, technical diagrams, engineering sketches and work instructions.
  • Strong awareness of marine, diving and workplace safety requirements.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The ability to maintain effective working relationships with colleagues at all levels.
  • A mature, self-motivated and responsible approach to work.
  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • The ability to manage varied tasks and remain effective under pressure.
  • The physical fitness required to undertake diving, vessel and manual maintenance duties.
  • The flexibility to respond to operational call-outs outside normal working hours.
  • The ability to swim confidently and work safely in and around water.
  • A valid boat-handling or vessel-operating qualification would be advantageous.

Working Conditions

This is a six-month contract involving work across marine, vessel, shoreside and underwater environments within the Caribbean.

The position will involve physically demanding tasks, exposure to changing weather and sea conditions, confined or restricted working areas and the use of specialist diving and maintenance equipment.

The successful candidate must be prepared to respond to call-outs at varying hours depending on operational requirements.
