The Opportunity
ANT Recruitment is supporting an established and growing Caribbean-based organisation in the appointment of an experienced Marine Mechanic.
This is a hands-on technical role involving the installation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of marine engines, equipment and vessel systems.
The successful candidate will have strong practical experience working on power and sailing vessels, including inboard and outboard engines, generators and associated marine systems.
You will work closely with the Director of Operations and wider operational team to ensure vessels, machinery and equipment remain safe, reliable and fully operational.
What You'll Be Doing
Your responsibilities will include:
- Installing new and used marine engines and associated systems.
- Troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining engine equipment and vessel systems.
- Diagnosing and overhauling inboard and outboard engines.
- Working on generators and other onboard mechanical systems.
- Determining the parts, materials, tools and supplies required for each task.
- Supporting on-land vessel dry-docking activity.
- Supporting maintenance and repair work on vessels, machinery, equipment and other assigned systems.
- Conducting general vessel inspections and accurately maintaining required records.
- Reading and interpreting manuals, exploded-view diagrams, engineering sketches, charts and work orders.
- Estimating new repair or maintenance work when required.
- Maintaining clean, organised and safe working areas.
- Ensuring all work is completed in line with company procedures, standard operating procedures and relevant regulatory requirements.
- Ensuring all tasks are carried out in accordance with pollution-control and environmental guidelines.
- Reporting health and safety concerns to management.
- Liaising professionally with customers while working on their vessels.
- Acting as a positive ambassador for the company at all times.
- Driving trucks and operating workboats where required and authorised.
- Supporting colleagues by sharing knowledge and assisting with training where appropriate.
- Completing additional technical or operational duties as required by management.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for a practical, dependable and technically strong Marine Mechanic who can work confidently across a range of vessel maintenance and repair activities.
You should have:
- At least three years' post-qualification experience as a Marine Mechanic or similar technician.
- Recognised technical training in marine mechanics, engine repair or a related discipline.
- A recognised marine trade certification covering service, maintenance and repair of power and sailing vessels.
- Working knowledge of inboard and outboard engines, generators and other marine systems.
- Strong diagnostic and analytical skills.
- The ability to troubleshoot, repair and overhaul marine engines and vessel systems.
- The ability to read and interpret service manuals, exploded diagrams, engineering sketches, charts and work orders.
- The ability to estimate repair requirements and identify required parts and materials.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to complete work within agreed deadlines.
- The ability to manage varied tasks and remain effective under pressure.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- The ability to maintain effective working relationships with colleagues at all levels.
- A professional approach when dealing with customers.
- A mature, self-motivated and dependable approach to work.
- The ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- The physical fitness required to complete workshop, vessel and manual maintenance duties.
- Current First Aid, CPR and AED certifications.
- The ability to drive trucks and operate workboats where required.
- A valid driving licence or the ability to obtain the locally required licence within the agreed period.
- The flexibility to respond to operational call-outs outside normal working hours.
A current Honda Marine / Outboard certification would be highly advantageous.
Working Conditions
This is a six-month contract involving work across workshop, vessel, marine and project-site environments within the Caribbean.
The role will involve physically demanding duties, hands-on mechanical work, vessel inspections, dry-docking support and occasional work in changing weather or marine conditions.
The successful candidate must be prepared to respond to call-outs at varying hours depending on operational requirements.
